What rose colours mean, and which to send in Dubai

Red for love, white for sincerity, pink for affection. A practical guide to choosing rose colours for the occasion, written for senders in Dubai.

Red roses

Red means romantic love, full stop. In Dubai red roses carry real weight: they are the anniversary flower, the proposal flower and the standard apology-that-matters flower. A dozen reads as sincere. Fifty reads as serious. A hundred reads as a story she will tell her friends. Do not send red roses to a colleague unless you mean exactly what red roses mean.

White roses

White stands for sincerity, respect and new beginnings. It suits engagements, weddings and formal apologies, and it is also the appropriate choice for condolences. White roses are the safest premium option when you know the recipient's taste is minimal.

Pink roses

Pink is affection without declaration: gratitude, admiration, friendship with warmth. It is the right colour for birthdays, new babies, congratulating a friend, or a first bouquet early in a relationship when red would say too much too soon.

Yellow and orange roses

Yellow is friendship and cheer, which makes it a good get-well and thank-you colour and a poor romantic one. Orange sits between yellow's warmth and red's intensity: enthusiasm, pride, celebration. Both work well for exam results, promotions and new ventures.

How many stems to send

In Dubai the stem count is part of the message. Twelve is the classic gesture. Twenty five marks an occasion. Fifty is a statement, and one hundred stops the room. For proposals and milestone anniversaries, most senders choose fifty or more.
